Period Conversation Starter Resource Launched

Social enterprise Think2Speak have received £10,000 from the Tampon Tax Community Fund and Lincolnshire Community Foundation to support the creation of resources to aid often difficult conversations around periods.

Lizzie Jordan, Founder of Think2Speak, said: “Talking about periods can present a challenge for young people, and with some children starting their periods as early as age 8, access to information and support can make a huge difference. We look forward to using this money to create and distribute resources that can have a big impact on people’s lives.”

The funding of which Think2Speak has benefited, is being used to make grants available to groups operating in Greater Lincolnshire that benefit women and girls on the key themes of health, wellbeing, building confidence and increasing social/economic activity. The aim is to support women who are most marginalised to overcome barriers that prevent them from fulfilling their potential.

Think2Speak will be launching the first resource at Lincolnshire County Council’s Professional Judgement conference at Bishop Grosseteste University. This annual event allows Adult and Children’s Social Care teams to get together and discuss the challenges ahead and successes from the year before.

Lizzie added: “We have been working initially on a leaflet with helpful insights from those who have experience of this kind of unique situation within care. We have put together information and advice based on real experiences, aimed at those who are looking after young people and might not be equipped with the awareness to have informed discussions on the topic, which can often be sensitive and uncomfortable.”
